Before you scroll down any further, this is a photo journal of my trip to Tofino, British Columbia. This is a pointless story.
I have beaten the google maps ETA again. I’m very early for the ferry….
After everyone boarded the ferry, seats got empty fast as everyone lined up to get a coffee from the coffee shop onboard. I needed a nap. I knew the coffee cannot help the 2 hour sleep I got last night. This was a very impromptu trip. I kept having to jump out of bed every time I remembered something that needed to be packed. alright I’m going to close my eyes -_-
Waaa! Waaah! ….right in my ear. I thought I’m sleeping in my bed and I was waking up to the alarm. This dad was carrying his toddler on his shoulders by the ferry window. Maybe he liked the idea of watching the sunset with his baby. It's clearly not working out for him and my sleep.
When I started to see the warm light on the ferry windows covered in condensation, my camera strap started to yank my neck asking me to take him out to photograph the sunrise.
I was lucky to catch the sunrise when the sun looked like a tiny fire ball far away emerging out of the water. There wasn’t many people in the deck because of the cold winds. My earlobes were turning rubber, but I watched the full sun rise anyway.
Okey the winds got unbearable. I put both hands in my hoodie and walked to the area covered in glass on the deck to enjoyed the rest of the sunrise.
When I was about to head back down from the deck, I ran in to Brian. He is photographer based in Vancouver. We chat for a bit.
Where are you headed to?
I'm going on a camping trip to Tofino. Plus take some photos.
This is my first time there. I want to do some early morning photography by the sea and do a few trails.
How about you Brian? I'm heading to Nanaimo and then in a couple of days I'm headed to the west coast with Adam Gibbs. He's waiting for me on the other side to pick me up.
^^ My eye brows raised up. I am a huge fan of Adam Gibbs work. Some times I go to his website to draw inspiration before heading out for a photography session.
Adam Gibbs was a huge inspirations for my photography. The first photography book I bought was Quiet Light by Adam Gibbs.
I was debating in my head whether I should drive straight to arrivals parking lot and scout for him. Naaah! Even if I see him, I can’t just bother the man.
We were getting closer to the Nanaimo dock. “Nice chatting with you Brian.. Hope you have a great photography trip”
this is Brian Barnham.
